dog friendly walks in selby
Selby is a market town that sits on the River Ouse, approximately 12 miles from the city of York. Although it's relatively small compared to its neighbours of York and Leeds, there are some excellent dog walks and plenty of options for cafes if you fancy lunch with your furry friend.
selby canal
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 6.4km
Time: Approx 90 minutes
Start Point: Selby Lock, YO8 8FD
The Selby Canal route is a 5.5 mile walk from Selby Town Centre to the outlying villages. The best part of this walk is that you can hop on and off via various entrances to the canal along the route. It's an extremely straight route so if you're looking for something a bit livelier, try one of the other walks below.
skipwith common
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 6.4km
Time: Approx 90 minutes
Start Point: King Rudding Lane, YO19 6QL
There are three trails to follow in Skipwith Common so you can choose the best trail for you.

barlow common
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 4km
Time: Approx 40 minutes
The nature trail at Barlow Common is a dog and child friendly route brought to us by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Be warned dogs do need to be on a lead at all times but there's plenty of things for them to do. There's also plenty of on site parking.

selby horseshoe

The Selby Horseshoe route is a 13.5km trail that takes in a variety of views, from rivers, to fields and the town centre.

bishop wood
Difficulty: Easy

Time: Approx 90 minutes
Bishop Wood is a circular trail perfect for dog lovers. It's an easy walk but be careful as it's also easy to wander off the track!

brayton barff
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 2.1km
Time: Approx 30 mins
This 2.1km circular walk is a popular walk with a variety of wildlife and plants on show. There's no rule that dogs have to be on lead but please be cautious around other dogs who may be nervous.

burn airfield

Time: Approx 55 minutes
This 5km circular walk around the airfield is nice and flat and a relatively easy walk which makes its popular with dog walkers. Dogs are allowed off lead but please be careful around other nervous dogs. There's some parking on site but also be warned it can get quite muddy!
