dog friendly restaurants and bars in selby

Selby is a market town that sits on the River Ouse, approximately 12 miles from the city of York. Although it's relatively small compared to its neighbours of York and Leeds, there are some excellent dog walks and plenty of options for cafes if you fancy lunch with your furry friend.

Barco Lounge is an informal, neighbourhood style cafe bar and is open all day, every day. I've been to Barco Lounge quite a few times now and it's rare I'm ever disappointed. The staff are always super attentive with the dogs and love to come say hello. There's a doggy hospitality section with water bowls and various choices of dog treats for you to help yourself to which is a fantastic addition. The venue is also spread over two floors so for those with nervous dogs, there's usually a quiet space you can take your fur baby away from any other dogs.

the wheatsheaf

We've frequented The Wheatsheaf on several occasions and its always been a cosy pub that loves when you bring your pooch along for an after work drink or a delicious homemade evening meal. Expect guest ales, home cooked food and a cosy log burner to relax next to. Dogs can grab their own water bowl and are sure to get plenty of fuss from the staff. There is parking on site at the pub, and its a handy stopping point if you take a walk down Selby Canal.

The drovers arms

images (5).jpeg

The Drovers Arms is an award winning cosy gastro pub with a big reputation. The pub recently underwent a £150,000 renovation and now boasts a contemporary, stylish interior. On the food scene, they only use locally sourced produce that best reflects the season, and I can personally recommend the food, I had the sea bass which was absolutely delicious! They love dogs at The Drovers Arms and are happy to provide lots of doggy treats and bowls of water. Dogs are allowed in the bar area or outside eating area but not in the main restaurant.

The Swan is a cosy pub in the village of Brayton. The entire pub is dog friendly and you'll usually find at least one doggo there when you visit! Dogs are always given plenty of fuss from the staff and the patrons and there's plenty of water bowls. For the adults, the pub regularly hosts live music, quizzes and karaoke (which dogs are always invited to too). There's plenty of on site parking, just make sure you fill in your number plate on the iPad at the bar. There's not tons of food options here but they do have fish and chips Fridays and a Sunday lunch offering.

bar paradise

Bar Paradise is a cocktail bar in the centre of Selby with a Jamaican decor theme. The bar is open on Fridays and Saturdays only so it's perfect if you fancy some cheeky weekend drinks but don't want to leave the pooch at home. It's not somewhere that's super dog friendly but the fact that they let dogs into a cocktail bar gets brownie points from us. They also offer happy hour for cocktails and they taste really good! For any non-cocktail drinkers, they also stock plenty of lager and spirit choices.

Located just outside the village of Saxton, The Crooked Billet is a family run pub offering home cooked quality food and is known for their giant Yorkshire puddings. The food is all locally sourced and they even have a vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu. In their own words, their meals are served in 'true Yorkshire portion sizes' but if you're not feeling up to it, you can ask for a smaller portion and pay a smaller amount. And did we mention they love dogs too?
